I bought this because my Logitech 5000 mouse/kb combo developed problems... switch-bounce on the mouse meant I often got double-clicks instead of singles and the kb kept losing its connection. The mouse had seen some punishment over the years, so it was to be expected, as no switch lasts forever. So, I had to bite the bullet.
I didn't bother with the cd out of the box, as I'd read a review elsewhere which advised downloading the latest software for Windows 7 instead. This seamlessly uninstalled the older version for the old combo and found the new equipment straight away. Nicely done.
The keyboard is much more solid than the older one, with a crisp, positive feel to the keystrokes - key "clatter" and noise is vastly reduced as well. The display is clearer and I like the FN button to get at the extra functions - a neater solution to that used on the 5000. I miss the volume and zoom sliders that the 5000 had, though, but it's no biggy.
The mouse is outstanding - much more ergonomic than the old one, the ability to spin through a document rapidly is excellent. It took a while before the scroll wheel would spin freely (a couple of hours) and then it was a breeze. I love the ability to flip through the active programs with the thumb wheel - very neat. In addition, the ability to set the various buttons/wheels to different functions for different programs is brilliant. All the buttons have a positive, crisp feel without requiring undue effort. Tracking is pixel-perfect on all the surfaces I've tried out. My only criticism of the mouse is the button behind the universal scroll-wheel... it's a little awkward to get your finger to easily, and I miss the buttons each end of it (as I had on the 5000). It's a small price to pay, though, for the increased functionality elsewhere, and I very quickly got used to the new "feel" of this mouse.
This is not solely a "gamers product", as a previous reviewer stated - I don't play games (any more) and I'm loving it.
In sum, a much better engineered product than its predecessor, well thought out and worth every penny. You might not like mice/keyboards with lots of bells and whistles... but, if you do, then I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a better combo at this price-point.

It does look good. The mouse (on paper) makes sense with a slick keyboard. Sadly Logitech drivers are weak and the bluetooth regularly fails to recognise itself. As a result, you lose functionality, and in some cases connection to a PC. Ever try reconnecting a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse when there is no keyboard or mouse connected...? Hopefully you get the picture.
Secondly, the keyboard is not a particularly quick keyboard to type on as the keys are sticky.
However, if everything is working, the product is very nice, especially the mouse. Shame Logitech doesn't do more to bulletproof its software

I bought this to replace my MX3000 after it got damaged, and very much regret spending all this money on a product clearly not designed for people who use their PC for work rather than play. I've just ordered an MK300 which knocks spots off the MX5500 if you are a work user like me - because it is one sixth of the price (on Amazon - ie more like £20 than £130).
The HUGE negative of the MX5500 compared with the MX3000 is the disappearance of most of the Hot Keys - one touch "do what I choose" keys which really speeded up my work by opening folders, files, web pages, programmes - anything you liked you could have.
The replacement of these with Function +Fkey is not a bad idea for extra functions, but pointless for speed because you need 2 key strokes for everything - so programming Alt+F4 means you still need 2 key strokes (Function +chosen Fkey) and therefore gain nothing.
Furthermore, the keyboard has a "comfort" ridge at the bottom which as a touch typist I don't find comfortable at all, but it doesn't come off.
Time for Logitech to re-release the MX3000!

If your like me and love a great gadget then this combo is something you should seriously consider.
I have had the 'MX5500 revolution' mouse and keyboard' for over 3 years now and still works like new, the mouse still lasts for around 2 weeks without charge and the keyboard lasts for around 6 months. Considering I play on-line games almost daily this is fantastic. To top that the build quality is second to none, the amount of times I have accidentally dropped the mouse off the side of the sofa (Yes I have wood flooring not carpets) or the keyboard has fallen from my lap its a wonder how they are both still working to this day.
The mouse will make your on-line experience that much better, Why you ask? or even How? The mouse is so comfortable it becomes effortless within your hand. The sheer amount of buttons on this thing at first seems almost pointless, then you begin to realise there all there for a purpose. I'm not going to bore you with all the controls but the best example is the middle scroll wheel not only travels up and down the page like the speed of light (by simply flicking it with your finger) it also when pressed left or right scrolls the page that way too. It does have a second scroll wheel at the thumb which you can effortlessly flick between your programs as well.
The keyboard in general terms has never been a huge necessity to me however this keyboard has so many features on it you wouldn't believe, the best for me being the volume control down the left hand side of the keyboard, which if I'm in a program I can turn it down instantly, rather than closing down a program or game and then clicking on the little volume control or reaching for the volume button on the speaker itself. Handy if your like me and have your pc connected to the tv and you are sitting on the sofa. Within the same area of the keyboard you have the media controls which allow you to change you music instead of using your mouse, which is another handy little feature if you become bored of a song and are in a program working or playing.
This Keyboard also has a display which lets you know the time, date, room temperature, key counter, and if you have a new message in your mailbox, the downside to this and to the whole keyboard really is its not 'back-lit' so it does make it quite hard to see in low light.
One last feature of the keyboard which I use constantly is you can turn the numeric keypad (on the right of the keyboard) into a calculator with a press of the 'calculator button'. This shows up on the display on the keyboard. how many times have you needed to work out a quick sum? and have spent ages trying to find a calculator, try and find the calculator on your mobile phone or look for it on your pc (I know if done it myself - all three in fact) .
The wireless hub that comes with this combo is now my bluetooth adapter too which I have linked several different phone makes to and I have linked our headsets through the hub as well.
Overall 'MX5500 Revolution' is more expensive then others but if you want a keyboard and mouse combo to be proud of and one' of many handy features you need to invest now. before I brought the 'MX5500' I went through 2 keyboards in one year and that's purely why I brought the 'MX5500 Revolution' and boy am I glad I did.
Logitech you should be proud of the 'MX550 Revolution' there maybe critics out there ripping this product apart (I don't know I haven't looked) but it has certainly made a difference to my computing and on-line experience, it as become effortless and as a normal paying customer I thank you!
PS - God I hope I get a free wireless bluetooth headset from Logitech for the massive 'big up' lol. or at least vouchers guys come on.

This is a seriously good keyboard and mouse kit. The mouse is rechargeable and it lasts for days on one charge, recharge time is no more than an hour from flat. The keyboard is packed full of buttons which often have two functions on each, it is a very user friendly layout with the main functions already installed that you would use on a daily basis. The keys are nice to touch there is a slight soft touch to them that you would expect from an expensive keyboard. This keyboard has all the functions you would use on windows seven already installed ready for you. The LCD display is useful to and in a darkened room it’s not glowing like a nuclear explosion. I have found that both the key board and mouse although quite expensive are well worth the investment and the keyboard is lightweight but well made. All in all this is a very very good kit expensive but you pay for what you get.
