Simple and affordable, yet elegant and ergonomic
Date:25 May 2012
While there are many wireless mice out there on the market - some with all-singing, all-dancing buttons, and others more simple and ergonomic - it seems there are fewer options around nowadays for those who would rather go with a wired device. But thankfully, Logitech seem to have come up with the perfect solution with their LS1 Laser Mouse. The pricing was definitely very attractive also - at time of purchase, it was available at Currys PC World for £14.99 - which, for a four-directional-scrolling laser mouse, is very affordable.
Once out of the packaging (which wasn't exactly an easy state to achieve - why must everything be packaged in impenetrable plastic nowadays?!), the set-up of the device itself was pretty easy. The tricky part was locating and installing the software. Personally, I have always preferred driver installation discs over clumsy find-your-product style download sites, but I guess that's just personal preference. At the very least, a link directly to the relevant product page would have been better. But this is a minor blip for an otherwise exemplary product. And besides, the device works excellently as a mouse even without the software installed, so the tedious download site could potentially be ignored altogether if you'd prefer.
The device's simple yet elegant polished surface gives the mouse a simple elegance, and the rubber-like grips on the side add that little stylistic flair that really complements the device's overall looks. Plus, it (supposedly) comes in a range of colours - although black was the only option available at time of purchase. The mouse feels agile and usable in the palm to hold and to use, with an almost ergonomic comfort. The rubber-like grips, not only there to look good, also help to keep the device firmly attached to your hand, making the mouse manageable and comfortable to use.
The four-directional scroll wheel works excellently - vertical scrolling feels smooth and natural, and even horizontal scrolling feels comfortable and easy to the point where a standard two-directional scroll feels almost archaic. Also, when combined with the Logitech software, the customisation options available for the wheel make the device versatile and very useful in almost any situation. Last but not least, this is a laser mouse, and so uses laser technology to track movement. And this mouse does just that, with beautiful precision and accuracy. Everything from simple web browsing to complex gaming feels smooth and fluid with this mouse.
So in summary, this is a beautifully elegant mouse with just the right level of features to make it flexible and versatile, but not too much to make it seem cluttered. It's comfortable, customisable and affordable. Plus it looks great, too. The only issues are the packaging and the installation of the software. With the exception of these minor drawbacks, this is an excellent device. If you're looking for an accurate, elegant and comfortable wired mouse that's usable yet not over-complicated, then look no further.

Quality mouse at a budget price
Date:07 September 2011
My last mouse didn't die but it went mad - I thought I had got the worst virus ever made! So I needed a replacement and decided to try and find something a bit better than the lowest price offerings.
After quite a bit of research, I decided on the Logitech LS1 as I regard Logitech as a quality manufacturer, I fancied trying a laser mouse, and it looks good too.
I'm still not quite happy with the shape of the LS1 though. It's backside slopes up into my palm instead of sloping down as most mice do. For that reason it doesn't yet feel quite as comfortable as my other mice but no doubt I will get used to it.
In use it feels like a quality item with solid clicking and responsive wheel for scrolling. I haven't yet tried the software for sideways scrolling as I am always reluctant to install extras on my computers and make things more complicated.
I had a quick go with the mouse in a graphics program and was able to draw more accurately with the LS1 than with other mice I have used.
Overall, at a price of around 10 UK pounds, it works well, looks good, and feels like it will last a lot longer than the cheapies I have bought in the past. If I get used to the shape, I will buy a second one for my other PC!

Nice colours

Logitech BJ-58 unfortunately (after many years of use) started to generate random series of l-clicks on a single press of the left button.
Logitech LS1 seemed a good choice. Similar to the BJ-58, but even more smooth and more modern sensor. Horizontal scrolling. Color. Nothing sensational - just a mouse to work - and sometimes for games.
But the LS1, compared to BJ-58, is a little too small and has too stiff keys. It makes no problems in office applications, or when browsing the Internet. But it is perhaps a little less comfortable for computer games than the BJ-58. This is not a problem of the number of buttons or resolution. It is a matter of matching the shape of the mouse to hand: the hand is not on the mouse, but on the table.

This is the second logitech LS1 mouse I have bought, I use the computer a lot and its a fantastic mouse.
I bought a Microsoft comfort mouse before this one and got RSI in one day with the MS mouse. Went and bought another LS1 instead
You wont be dissapointed with this mouse if you use the PC a lot.

Best ever mouse for me.
Date:04 July 2010
My old mouse "died". I am delighted with my laser mouse so it was a blessing. I have small hands and spend a considerable amount of time editing in Photoshop. With this mouse my hand doesnt get cramped and I need to use my "pen" less because it is so accurate in its tiny movements. This looks good, feels even better and does the job perfectly for me.

Nice budget mouse

I got this mouse to replace an OEM and it did the job greatly. Although now I have a Razer mouse it is still a great pick to bring around with my laptop thanks to it's smaller size and good tracking on most surfaces.

Good value and decent quality.
Date:11 March 2010
Due to it's small size this mouse is perfect for portable use. The build quality is great considering the low cost of this mouse and it functions well, the horizontal scroll is a nice feature not found on many mice.
The rubber grips add to the comfort of the mouse and really the only big drawback to the overall comfort of the mouse is the small size, but if it were larger it wouldn't be as portable.
If you hate using the touchpad on a laptop and need a mouse that is easy to carry around but works well then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this product. I would most certainly recommend a larger mouse for use with a desktop machine though.
