I purchased this mouse to use alongside my laptop. I needed both keyboard and mouse but all available combos did not satisfy me fully in terms of the keyboard's key-press feel (my market research included only Microsoft and Logitech products). I opted to buy separate Logitech products, thus taking advantage of the company's miniscule USB unifying receiver. My other criteria being: small size, key-press sense (as already mentioned above), reasonable price, programmable keys, ergonomics.
The M505 has a good chunky feeling, fitting well into the palm of the hand, gliding well along all surfaces (no mouse pad), weighty enough to feel robust, left & right click buttons very sensitive, central scroll wheel chunky and strong. Precision is impressive at all pointer speed settings.
Installation was very easy, Windows 7 automatically recognised the USB receiver to allow default mouse functionality. I also downloaded and installed Logitech's excellent Setpoint software for more customised settings.
Two drawback only: the battery compartment locking mechanism feels somewhat flimsy, and the glossy black finish attracts fingerprints & smudges.
IN SUMMARY: highly recommended as a standard mouse to accompany your laptop, but if you want a fully fledged desktop or gaming companion go for something more expensive.

Having purchased this mouse over a year ago, its time to review. This device is used every day for a good 8 hours per day in teh office and longer at the weekends (children), It has never let me down and still works as good as new. Very good product and worth the extra £'s.

Apart from the fact that this is an excellent mouse, with no setup required - plug in the tiny receiver and away you go - the thing that impressed me most was the fact that there was a simple way of opening a hard plastic container. No more getting out the Stanley knife or scissors, and then being in danger from sharp plastic (we've all been there, haven't we?). Logitech is to be commended very highly for this: and I hope that other manufacturers will take note and, more importantly, take action.
