If you are thinking of upgrading from a Harmony one remote then don't . If you want to control equipment inside close cabinets get Harmony’s own infrared remote extenders or infrared extenders from another brand. This will save money and retain all the good features of the harmony one . Harmony 900 is an expensive step down in features , it lack a very useful feature call " sequence which is different fro what harmony calls "activities" . Activities is a nice concept where its a sequence of operations that switches on various equipment and changes inputs & setting so you can do a certain activity. For instance watching Sky TV or Bluray may involving switching on BD player / Sky Box , TV and surround sound amp and changing all their inputs so you can watch the relevant source . When you are in activity mode such as watching bluray , the remote configures it buttons to control all 3-4 devices at once without having to switch mode on remote . Ie part of the remote will control bluray, part the TV , part your surround sound amp etc . Very clever stuff. You can add extra function keys on the touch screen part , and have several scrolling pages of extra rarely used virtual buttons ( i.e. picture settings , surround sound settings, Repeat play modes etc) . Different functions can be customised to hard keys as well. "Sequence" is another feature where by pressing a single hard key or virtual soft key you can assign a series of multiple function whilst you are in activity mode such as watching SKY HD TV . This is very useful if you want to access some function/ feature that’s buried within several menus & sub menus which would normal require a lot of button pushing . On my old Harmony one I had a sequence to access my SKY HD recording in alphabetical order with a single button push. This would normally involve 4 or 5 button pushes of going into various menus & sub menus. Its a real time saver and convince . I had subtitles on & off done by "sequence " function which normally requires 3 button pushes. Same goes for my surround sound amp to access various sound modes. For some un explained reason this feature which was present in Harmony one and older Harmony remotes has been dropped and it seems Harmony has no intention of enabling this feature on Harmony 900, based on feed back from forums .This is the main reason for me to give Harmony 900 a low star rating , otherwise other aspect of this remote is good. Its solidly built and feels of good quality . Having a mix of hard buttons and touch screen gives the best of both worlds and feels similar to using the original remotes that came with your equipment . You can use remote just by feeling the buttons on it with out looking at the remote it self . Back lighting of all keys is very useful in dark. Its nice you can customise your own buttons & functions . Software is fairly cumbersome at takes a lot of time to get to grips with and set up. But once set up the remote is very nice to use . It cheaper than some advance AV multifunction remotes . The battery life on Harmony 900 is a bit worse than harmony one . I have to charge it every 3-4 days , where as with harmony one can go without a charge for over a week. Operation of equipment inside close cabinets work well with RF extender and functions are responsive . I got a about 6 devices behind a close low level cabinet 1.6m wide and they all work well with just 3 infrared blasters.
Overall I would advise someone considering this remote to look at Harmony one instead if they don’t need RF extender to control equipment inside cabinets with closed doors. The only advantage I can see this has over Harmony one is that it has hard coloured buttons red , green, blue & yellow) , instead of the soft keys you get on Harmony one . Useful if you need to use them a lot and want to avoid accidental pushes which is easy with touch screen keys .

If you are coming from a previous harmony remote be prepared to set up a new account and set all your devices and activities up from scratch!
I went from a 1100 to a one no problem but from a one to the 900 or even back to the 1100 is a no no......

Had this for almost 1 year and don' t have any issues with the remote but the software could be a bit slicker. Use this to control multiple devices, Sony tv directly and a Sony blu ray, and Sony hard disc recorder via an Onkyo AV receiver all but tv out of sight. Able to set up activities that either watch tv directly or use one of the other sources and control volume and it's source on Onkyo and mute tv. Still use Onkyo remote occasionally to access detail settings but very rarely. Added a IPOD dock to the Onkyo via it's universal port and able to set up another activity on the remote to play music. Thinking of adding Apple tv thro the Onkyo and expect this to be a breeze to add another activity to the remote. Just worry sometimes if I loose the remote or sit on it !;-)

When I loko at reviews, it's peoples' annoyances with a product that interest me the most. Those niggles that you won't find in the sales blurb, but really tell you what it's like to live with.
On that basis, everything's great, except for a few things.
1. The volume control. In my system, everything runs through the TV, and that's where I control the volume. Unlses there's a hidden feature I don't know about, this remote will attempt to change the volume on whichever device is currently selected. I've lost count of the times I've tried to change the volume, found it's set to another device, and had to go the menu options to select the TV before the volume controls work. Once is annoying, and after 100 times it's just not funny anymore.
2. The PS3 adapter. Quite often, it fails to trigger the PS3 via an Action, but works manually. Also, if you turn the PS3 on or off manually, the remote loses track of whether it's oin or off, and turns it on not off, or vice versa.
So, overall, not bad. The ability to configure certain keys to always control one device, a less erratic PS3 controller, and a more responsive touch screen would be nice.

Well constructed and easy to use once the item has been programmed. Suggest the User Guide - full in pdf on the CD is printed out first as this gives a feel of how you are going to set the unit up with the use of your pc/internet.

The lower remotes have the facility to create macros or sequences to assign to a button, i.e pause the DVR, and skip for 3 seconds and then adjust the volume and continue playing the DVR
Unfortunately this high spec remote doesn't allow you to use this facility. The cheaper 700 does but is limited on the number of devices you can control
If you want full control of activities don't spend the extra on this remote
